Cpu vs GPU upgrade

Hi. ive been trying to figure out which i should upgrade first its just a hard choice because of my hardware and all


Current System: athlon x2 5000+ over clocked to 3ghz

3gb of ram DRR2

radeon 3850

Priority list: Level design,gaming,web browsing

Game priority list: L4D2,TF2,UT3,FSX

Well ive been thing of Upgrading my GPU for gaming but I spend a lot more time Map making for source engine and when i compile a map It Needs CPU power to Play it.


what i was wondering If i upgrade my CPU will i Atleast get a little frame rate boost

If i get a Graphics card ill Get a CPU cooler to over clock it more (im still using stock and i was able to get it to 3ghz)

Well both are little slow by todays standards, but I gotta say go with GPU first, and get the 5750. Forget the 4800's, they are yesterdays news. Upgrading the processor with the old 3850 is not going to do a lot for you.
Later when you do upgrade the CPU, you will get another nice boost.

You mgiht need water to get good temps at that speed, but you should be able to get it on a good air cooling.

And here's the flat out best 100$ GPU.

And I disagree about the 48xx cards being "yesterdays" news, the 4850 owns the 5670, both for 100$.
