A8 3850 w/ Radeon HD 6550D, Does ram make a difference?

Does more ram benefit the CPU/GPU combo? I currently have my setup with 4gb of ram and noticed that the integrated GPU only uses 512mb. I ordered 8gb of ram and am hoping this will increase my performance. Bringing my total ram to 12gb. Does the integrated HD 6550D share the 4gb with the system or is the 512mb it's absolute limit? Will the extra 8gb have any significance towards general performance and gaming? Thanks.

Windows 7 pro
A8 3850 apu
4gb ram 1333hz
Biostar mobo
500gb HDD

the speed of the ram helps APU's, not so much the amount. get 2133hz ram, not 1333. you will see about 20% increase in fps.
