i have a cable modem coming into my house with that going into a router (non-wireless) and then feeding into a airport 2000 edition (i no, i no, my dad is a mac user)

i can connect to the internet using my handy little pocket usb 802.11b connecter, but i get low and very low signal strengths. Just across the hall my sister get a great or excellent signal. i heard that walls shouldnt affect the signal strength, but evidently it is. I was wondering if there was a way to get a better signal strength?

Someone told you walls don't affect signal strength? Seriously? That's humorous.

You can add gain at the AP. If you have detachable dipoles (antennas) then you can get higher gain antennas to get better range. You can also do some homemad stuff to help direct your radiation pattern. Simply putting a tin foil base behind the AP can significantly help coverage in the other direction. Sacrificing coverage in the other direction of course. I doubt you can do anything on the client side. Never seen a handheld device that allowed for swapping antennas.
