Hi.

I own a HP XW4400 workstation. The motherboard appears to have 2 PCIe slots.
I own a ASUS EAH4870 1gb with A Darknight cooler. I was wonderign if I could buy a 4870X2, trifire them, and have it run at 16x/8x/8x, not 16x/8x/4x or somthing like that. I belive the motherboard may have been a 975X varient.

More about : 4870 trifire xw4400

Also, it's like a 450W PSU, so i know i would need a new 1.

Doesn't look like the Motherboard supports Crossfire; as most workstations don't. Used for RAID controllers and the like.

Instead of getting a 4870x2 ($250?), sell your HD4870 for $100 and get an HD5870.

+1 to Shadow. You will still need a new PSU though.

The 5870 is slower than a 4870X2, and 150$ more. In addition, I would like to use the 4870, not just sell it.

Also, if i can run the 4870, i can run the 5870 right?

Then you might need a new Mobo if you want to upgrade.
Edit: 5870 uses less power at idle than a 4870, but uses 40w MORE power at load, so with a 450W psu, you might be pushing it. I'd want to get a little bit of a bigger PSU just to be safe, but you could probably get by.

Uh, it has 2 PCIe slots. But if i bought an X58 motherboard, I could Xfire right?
Also, could i ruuse the case with a newmotherboard.

Could i just sell my build? How much could i get for it if i bundle it with a 2253bw 22" samsung moniter?

I live near a tech flea market. Peopel have never heard of C2D, and they pay good money for 1.8Ghz P4s with a 20gb ide and 256mb of ddr ram.

If they pay good for a P4, they won't pay good for a C2D. They don't know what they're doing, and they'll see you're more expensive for what they see as no valid reason.

The HD5870 is an extreme upgrade fro man HD4870, dunno whachuuuu talkin' 'bout.

I could get a 4870 Trifire, for 250$, or a 5870 for 400$, I'm not rewaly sure what's better.

Also, I could print some P4 vs C2D benches, and the Intell page where they talk about how C2D is the newest most awesome thing ever. The other month, some guy paid me 180$ for a P4 3.2ghz. I was stunned. I do some work there, I go to my local dump, collect all the P4's, bring them there, and people pay me good money for trash. I think i might try selling my rig there.
