Hi There .

I'm about to be given an older HP server. Going to find a m/board with PCIe support (this only has PCI-X) and move the dual Opty 280's and 16Gb of ECC RAM over.

I've been outta the game forever (my PC is an Athlon XP 2000+!!!)

But ready to come charging back in.. errm well somewhat - I'm assuming it would come in around upper entry-level vs today's rigs? Any thoughts/insights?

Could you perhaps also recommend a PCIe card that would complement such a system - that is, I'm sure many of today's cards are overkill.

Thankyou!

Opteron is a server CPU, will do gaming, but any gaming on server parts is quite pointless, as you don't really get so far.

I'd recommend selling the server and buying gaming rig parts with the money made.
