Hello,
I have been facing a problem with my P4 cpu.I have a P4 3.0E Ghz with 1Mb L2 Cache and 800Mhz FSB with stepping 4 and revision D0.But when I checked using intel processor identification tool and cpu-z it says the cpu is working at 1.99-2.0Ghz and 532-533FSB while it should be running at 3.0/800.The motherboard is a China made motherboard ZX-945-15 with intel 915 chipset and revision B1.It has AMI bios. The board also supports667MHZ dual channel DDR2 ram.But Cpu-z is showing the channel as single.Even the ram works at Dram freq of 200mhz and FSB: DRAM of 2:3.The DDR2 ram I'm using is OCZ Platinum dual channel kit rated at 800Mhz and can be overclocked further. When booting the Bios identifies the cpu properly and 3.0ghz but when testing with the softwares it shows 3.0 ghz working at 2.0ghz.What might be the problem. Thanks

Specs
Cpu- P4 3.0E Ghz 800mb Fsb 1 mb L2 cache stepping 4 rev D0 Socket 478
Motherboard- ZX-945-15
Ram- Ocz platinum rev 2, 2Gb dual channel kit
Powersupply- Corsair Tx650

It is a socket 478 3.0EGhz chip, the motherboard is a China Mainboard with AMI bios.

Cpu-z says the following:

Core sped : 2000Mhz(fluctuating 2000.0-2000.2Mhz)
Clock multiplier : 15x
Bus speed : 133Mhz
Rated Fsb : 533Mhz (fluctuating 533.0-533.4Mhz)
Dram Freq : 200Mhz
Fsb: Dram : 2: 3
Cas# Latency(CL) : 4.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay(tRCD) : 4 clocks
RAS# Precharge(tRP) : 4 clocks
Cycle Time(tRAS) : 10 clocks

I have an option to set memory by SPD(current setting), if I disable it I can set the timings manually but there isnt an option to change the Fsb: Dram ratio. Also the max freq of the Dram Freq can be changed from auto(current setting) to 400-533.

I tried changing the jumper pins as advised by COLGeek and ended up with this

Tried changing the jumpers(FSA,FSB,FSC) as indicated on the motherboard for 800Mhz,but instead it has scaled down to 400Mhz.Now my cpu clock is down to 1.5Ghz and theres no way to even take it to earlier 2Ghz.The motherboard supports 667 Mhz ram, so my current ram(800Mhz)is running at slower speeds. Is there anyway that the ram is causing the FSB and Cpu clock to come down.I can manually set it to 533 or 400Mhz.I have posted all the finding from Cpu-z above. Please take a look. The current reading is
Core sped : 1500Mhz(fluctuating 1500.0-1500.2Mhz)
Clock multiplier : 15x
Bus speed : 100hz
Rated Fsb : 400Mhz

Dram Freq : 200Mhz
Fsb: Dram : 1:2
Cas# Latency(CL) : 4.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay(tRCD) : 4 clocks
RAS# Precharge(tRP) : 4 clocks
Cycle Time(tRAS) : 10 clocks

Also My Pcie x16 is running at x4.Are there any settings that may be causing this. There is a jumper near my x16 slot that says lan_en.Its cuurently at disable mode.I have no problems with my lan port right now so is this connected to the Pcie x16 slot and causing it to go slower.

Appreciate all the help everyone.

Hi
there are some things you can do:
1) update the bios
2) disable speed step, feature which is used to reduce the speed of the processor and save energy when not in use.
3) download the latest version of cpuz

currently what you are seeing is just in idle mode. try to run prime95 and then chk the speed and you will see everything at full speed. hope i helped

1)Can't locate the motherboard company online to get a bios update. The bios is AMI, is there anyway to get an update for it.
2)CPU does not have the speed step feature
3)The readings are from the latest version of Cpu-z
4)Tried Prime95, the readings are the same as Cpu-z.

Thanks for the suggestions.Keep em coming.Im sure theres something I've overlooked.Do appreciate all the help. Thanks

Isn't anyone looking?Still need some help out here.Is there anyway to update my bios from the chip manufacturer or via any software. Are there any hardware based settings that could help me.

Is this system a homebuilt or a prebuilt? If prebuilt what brand is it? If homebuilt, look around the motherboard for a logo that would indicate the manufacturer.

You cannot do a general BIOS update because it needs to support the specific chips used on the motherboard. There are a great many boards that use AMI bios, but if you pick the wrong one you will kill your board.

The motherboard is a China made ZX-945-15.The system was put together at home.I did try changing the fsb via the jumpers. You can take a look at the entire post and see the settings I have tried.Let me know if there's anything I am missing or have overlooked.

Thanks

hi ,

I have a chinese board too...its a intel 945G based chipset mobo...its called ZX-I945LM4....

here is the detail about it:
http://sairship.en.alibaba.com/product/203882373-50035637/motherboard_945G_478socket_ZX_I945LM4_R1_1.html

this is just a pic abt it...

now the main disscussion..

i have put a pentium 4 3 ghz ht into it...the bios gave 1500 mhz...to sort out the problem i changed the front side bus via FSA, FSB, FSC settings...doing R/D on the net told me that these settings are not universal..so i did some trial and error to find out...and success!!! my pc is tuned to 3000ghz!! full power...the problem was in the coding sequence of the FSA,FSB,FSC...do this is u find three sets of three pins..each set for each FSX...

there are three pins in each FSX. 1,2,3....so u have to short them..use jumpers to short...so 1-2 means to short 1 and 2...etc...

at default the settings (fsa,fsb,fsc) are 2-3, 1-2, 1-2..
in this setting u get 400MHz FSB..so 1500 mhz proc speed!!

next is 2-3, 1-2, 2-3 ....this gives 533mhz FSB....so 2000MHz proc speed..

last is what u need..
settings are 1-2, 2-3, 2-3...this gives 800MHZ..the mobo is now at 800 mhz...the multiplier with this fsb gives u 3000MHZ...

still some mobos have just three pins for FSA, FSB, FSC...coding sequence in that sense is diff...do this if u just find three pins...

if 1 is for short and 0 for no short...then try this...do experiment coz i found it that way...

400 MHZ = 0,1,1
533 MHZ = 0,1,0
800 MHZ = 1,0,0

if still not then u might have these in ur mobo bios...anyways let me know what has happened..coz my chinese mobo is kicking ASS!! full 3000MHZ and that too using HT!!!

hope u got ur ans!!

Tried this setting system wont boot. The board has settings printed on it.According to that I should be at 3Ghz.But Cpu-z says 1.5Ghz.Also when I boot up,the processor is identified correctly as 3Ghz.The pins are in this order FSB,FSA,FSC.Any more suggestions?.What do you think mate?

this is my system settigs that is drawn on my mobo....

400 533 800
FSA 1-2 1-2 2-3
FSB 2-3 2-3 1-2
FSC 1-2 2-3 2-3
---A

but my system when i got it had this setting by default...

FSA 2-3
FSB 1-2
FSC 1-2

with this setting i got 400 mhz Fsb and 1500 mhz proc speed....so this is the actual 400 mhz spped rather than the setting given on the diagram...{A}
so the 400 setting on the board is not wroking in my case...

i put the setting of 800MHZ..like in {A}
then i got 533mhz fsb..and 2000MHZ proc speed...
so the 800 setting on the board is eventually 533.....

then i checked with the 400 setting of board,,board did nto boot..

then i put the 533 setting of the board..then surprise..800mhz fsb...
3000mhz..so the 533 settign on the board is eventually 800!!!

so there u have it..the settigns on the board are crap....experiment..

so this is the new setting taht is working..try it...:::

400 533 800
FSA 2-3 2-3 1-2
FSB 1-2 1-2 2-3
FSC 1-2 2-3 2-3

this is the wroking front side bus pin conf.....try it..hope i am been helpgul..

and Jarvis give me ur pin conf diagram on ur board...and when u bought ur mobo....and by the way try experimenting around...it will work trust me...

Also try using ur board diagrams...since u used ur 800 setting u got the actual 400 setting speed....so i suggest u try the reverse...

put the setting of ur mobo 400 in the diagram..that should be 800...or the 533 setting..it must work..
