Hello All,
I have 7 yr. old Compaq Presario SR1403WM w/ Asus K8S-LA & AMD Sempron 3000+ w/2G mem. and no AGP or expansion cards.
The audio controller is a Realtek ALC658C integrated. I have made this a dual boot sys. Win XP pro 2002 SP2 / Linux Mint 14. Audio is fine in Linux but choppy to locked up in XP. OS was XP Home when acquired and audio was fine. I've tried several variants of the AC97 driver none are perfect, some were better than others The version for my controller (4.06) is by far the worst. Does anyone know what's happening? Thanks, Mike

HP acquired Compaq, look for a sound driver on their site. cleanup all sound drivers installed prior. Look for other question marks in Device Manager, install chipset drivers from HP, get SP3 from microsoft "distributable" version. Re-run directx 9.0c install, after all drivers are on and working.
