Everytime I start up my computer lately there is no sound . I go to the volume control and the wave section is on mute. I turn the button to volume and everything is ok until I turn the computer off and restart it later. What would cause the wave volume to do this?

make sure you don't have mute checked by default.

goto 'Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices > Sound and Audio Devices' and in the 'Device volume' section, make sure the 'Mute' option is NOT checked.

I have the same thing. I noticed it ONLY AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW VERSION OF AVIRA FREE ANTIVIRUS. Are you using Avira Free Antivirus?

I think that's the culprit, but I haven't found a fix yet.
