Hi
I currently have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU. I am looking to upgrade my motherboard, RAM and CPU. My PC will be used for some gaming (e,g Bad Company 2, GTAIV etc.), video editing, visual effects (Adobe After Effects) and using 3D software such as 3DS max.

My budget for the CPU is around £300. Can anyone recommend a good CPU for me? I was looking at the AMD 1090T 6 core processor or maybe an i7 930 but can't really tell which is the best.

Thanks

Is your budget for the entire upgrade.? In case its only for the CPU then I'll recommend you to get the i7 930.. In case not then It'll be better to stick to your current build and upgrade to a core 2 quad 9550.. It'll definitely last you for sometime..

we are still researching for the creative architecture.

The intel architecture is more capable to handle professional programs than even the current AMD hexa cores.. And the presence of hyper threading gives 8 threads processing capability as opprosed to the 6 by the 1099T.. Also, one can use more RAM with a X58 build.. When it comes to a solution for both gaming and professional work, the X58 platform is dominant over the current AMD 7XX/8XX platforms.. Only when it comes to pure gaming, both the platforms become almost equal..
