1.5 amp PSU with 2-2.5 amps DVD-RW drive.

i recently bought a new DVD-RW drive. when i connected it to my comp it started just fine, until the system suddenly restarted on its own. Now my DVD-RW drive doesn't work anymore. I checked my PSU and it says there that it's output is only at 1.5 amps. I checked my drive and it says it need 2-2.5 amps. Curious, i checked all my other hardware and all, if not most, require only 0.5 - 1.5 amps, none reach 2 amps except my DVD-RW drive.

My question is, is that the reason my drive got fried? If so, will I be able to get it fixed so I can use it again if I buy a new PSU?

If you have a different computer, I would suggest attempting to use it to test to see if the drive is dead or not. Chances are it just won't function with a lack of ampage.

how does ur power supply only have 1.5amps? thats not possible on the 12volt rail...it has at least 20
