Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt)
Athlon 64 less than 4000+ Sempron less than 3800+

I'm not a wiz when it comes to these messy words and numbers :pt1cable:, so i don't really know if they're compatible with the motherboard.

Unfortunately HP wanted the cheepest of the cheep and that motherboard cannot go over 89W so that rules out the Phenom II 965 (being 125W)

In theory, An Athlon II X3 could have been compatible if there was a bios update but it doesn't look like they will put one out.

My suggestion is getting a 70$ MATX AM2+ board such as an Asus M3A78-EM + an Athlon X3 @ 2.9 or 3Ghz

Those 2 should cost less then 160$ and will make a huge performance difference.

You should also consider checking out what videocard you have (if you have an onboard you will gain performance as the onboard of an M3A78-EM is pretty decent... if you do have a videocard, what is the PSU.

Posting the model number of your HP would be nice so we can pull up all details.

The pc model is a6530f. I just need to find a processor that's better and compatible with the current motherboard.

I'm not really looking into buying a new motherboard, just a new processor. As for the gpu and psu its currently 8400gs and 300watt (I will be upgrading the psu along with processor. The gpu will be upgraded in the near future)
