How do I test my SSD for DOA?

I bought an SSD, but I don't have all the parts for my build yet.

I want to make sure it's not DOA before the 30 days are up.

I figured I would go to a friends to check it. I'm assuming I just plug it in while it's off. Boot in safe mode. And see if it's recognized. Turn off, and unplug it. Is there anything else I would need to do? Or am I doing it wrong?

It really just depends on what hardware you have access to. If you've got a usb/sata adapter that is bay far going to be the easiest way to test the drive. If you don't, then using someone else machine will probably work fine. You don't need to boot into safe mode, just turn off the machine, hook the drive up to a sata port, then boot the computer. It should show up at that point once you boot into the OS.

DOA on ssd's are pretty uncommon I believe, the bigger issue is that some seem to fail rather quickly once they are put into usage.
