Would the HIS H585F1GDG Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 graphics card be overkill for this setup?

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition
8Gig G.SKILL Memory
Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H
Standard 7200 RPM 320GB Hard Drive

Basically I just don't want to spend more many than I need to if the rest of the system isn't capable of taking full advantage of the graphics card. I'm currently running a HIS H485QT512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB and would like to upgrade to the best card available for the above system makeup.

Any input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

it would be fine, actually a 5870 would be better. there is no such thing as overkill

no such thing as overkill in graphics, just overspending. Cause sooner or later youll have a game that needs extra gpu muscle.

Yes, get the 5850. The 5870 is a spending overkill--its just not that much more powerful for the price difference.

No, the 5850 would be perfect for that system.

Although if you have a 4850 now, you could definitely use that for 6 months or so and be fine while you see if prices come down on the 58xx series. Might be worth it if ATI comes out with something new and the 5870 drops to $300. Then get that and you'd really be in business.
