Updating bios without floppy drive

I am trying to update the bios on a Gateway 510. There is no floppy. Tried to install new bios with flash drive but can not boot to usb. Any suggestions? I am trying to upgrade memory from 2X256mb to 2X1gb. Will not accept the 1GB ram sticks. Tried moving RAM around but will only boot with original ram.
