with $5000 the sky the limit pretty much. $1000 corei7980 $14002x 5970 $400-500 super high end motherboard $200-300 1000watt psu , $300 12gb ram, and still there probably enough there for a couple 160gb intel sdd, and a water cooling kit

$929.97

and that pc.

anything else than that is pretty much just dumb, just go buy a car, and if you have one already, or don't need one, just walk in to the bank and deposit the money, its normal when when you have money in the bank, a debit card and you can go out...

Just throwing this out there, but you do realize that the 980x isn't going to boost your gaming performance right?

If you're just throwing money away for the sake of doing so, or if you're building a folding rig then so be it, but don't make the mistake of believing that your 1000$ will be well spent for games.

If the OP has money to waste, let him do so. We can only do so much to educate those who need help here.

Khan, here's a comparison of the 980X processor with the i5 750, and when you look at the gaming performance (Fallout, Dragon Age, etc), you will see that there is little to no diff. You must realize that over 60 FPS doesn't make much of a difference.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/142?vs=109

If you still want bragging rights, by all means, buy the 980X processor and take pics, post 'em online, and enjoy.

So should i go for i7 975
m

March 31, 2010 2:12:42 AM

If you want the 975, sure. Look at these benchmarks, the 975 and the 980X trade 1st and 2nd place in gaming.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2960/12

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2960/13

It's really your choice. If you want the 980X and you can afford it, get it. It's like if you can afford either a Ferrari (980X), Porsche (975), or a Nissan GTR (930). If the Ferrari makes you happy, get it.

Also, the monitor you chose, Dell u2711.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c...

It has a response time of 6ms. Gaming monitors have 5ms or less, preferably 2ms. Since you want an uber gaming system, put the Eyeinfinity to use and get 3 awesome monitors and use them together.

I would suggest you ask the monitor/display experts here. I am not an enthusiast when it comes to monitors.

If this rig is not just for gaming but for heavy video processing/simulations, get the 980X. However, you should change that Dell monitor to something that suits gaming as well as w/e else you want to use it for. 6ms will cause input lag.

Here's my checklist for any top end rig regardless of budget:

1) Eyefinity. The new Eyefinity 6 ships in mere weeks. A 5x1 Portrait setup would be ideal. 2x in Crossfire or consider the 5970 Eyefinity 6 when it ships.

2) SSDs.

3) Intel i7. Pick 1366 or 1156 and don't look back. The 980x is major overkill for gaming and won't show a shred of benefit over a 930 or 860.

4) Water Cooling. I opted out of water cooling in lieu of highend air, but that was for budget reasons. If money is of no concern than it's the way to go. Do it right and leave the kits for people that don't have the inclination to research.

In my opinion those 4 things define high end.
