Upgrade to Windows 8?

I'm going to purchase the Windows 8 upgrade DVD because my current OS (XP) is broken and wont start, and it's time for an upgrade anyways.
Well, since my Windows XP is broken, does it matter? Can I still use the Windows 8 Upgrade disc? (I ask because XP wont even start after boot, it automatically bluescreens.)

Considering there was no direct upgrade path from XP to win7, I'd assume the same is true of windows 8. If this is the case, you will need to do a clean install of win8.

According to this it should be doable as long as you know your win xp key.

If your computer was working, I'd recommend running the win 8 upgrade assistant first.
