System recognizes 2gb of 4gb + wrong timing?

Hey folks and thanks for your time.

I just build a new system:
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
AMD Phenom 2 x4 965 BE)
G.Skill Ripjaws 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
Windows 7 Home 64-bit

The problem is that both Windows and my Bios show that I only have 2gb installed. System properties simples says 2.00gb.

I have the memory installed in the two "red slots" as per recommendation of the motherboard book.

Do I have a bum memory stick?

Also this memory is supposed to read 7-7-7-21 but in bios is it showing as 9-9-9-24. What might be the issue there?

Thanks for you time.

AMD is finicky about RAM; Q - what exact RAM do you have installed? e.g. http://gskill.com/products.php?index=244 What 'changes' in the BIOS have you made?

You might have a bad stick, but lets check that it's not a compatibility issue first. If it's not showing-up then there's no point in running Memtest. But, just out of curiosity does it show-up in CPUz - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

CAS Timings - unless you have either set the timings or selected XMP the BIOS simply uses 'safe' numbers, but this is EASY to correct.

The exact memory I have installed is: This

I took a minute and swapped the sticks in their slots and now both Windows and Bios are recognizing it as 4gb. Yet the ram timing is still off. I have not yet adjusted any bios settings. For DRAM Information 1 I am showing 9-9-9-24-5-33-10-4 and for Information 2 I am showing 8-2-5-4-4-110-7.8ms-1t

I am new to trying to understand all of this and so I hope this information helps.

Thanks again.

1333 7-7-7-21-2T @ 1.5v - http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=223 {those are not XMP}

BTW - Take a look to see if the DRAM LED is ON {look at MOBO}.

BIOS:
DRAM Frequency {Auto} -> DDR3-1333
Enter DRAM Timing Control
DRAM CAS -> 7
DRAM RAS -> 7
DRAM RAS PRE -> 7
DRAM RAS ACT -> 21
--
DRAM Command -> 2T
--
DRAM Voltage -> 1.5v
--
Save and Exit = Yes

The DRAM LED on this mobo has a seperate DDR_Crazy DDR_High and DDR_Normal LED... My DDR_Normal LED is on.

Normal is fine; Green is good for those low voltage sticks.

How is the RAM running now {after the above changes}?

Seems to be running fine. CPUz shows 4gb@ 7-7-7-21 2T timing. But I must admit I misspoke. My DRAM LED is NOT on. The LEDs I was referring to are apparently different.

All that matters it that's working; the WEI should be increased. You can compare before & after if you like with Super PI - http://virgilioborges.com.br/hyperpi/

Good Luck!
