DDR2 VS DDR3 Southbridge powerconsumption

Forum CPU & Components : Other Components DDR2 VS DDR3 Southbridge powerconsumption

Word :    Username :

You can read quite an amount of articles about how DDR3 consumes upto 30% less power than DDR2 memory.
I wonder if the same holds true for the southbridge that needs to be able to transfer faster data speeds.

Is there any article covering or looking into comparing a DDR3 capable southbridge to a DDR2 one?
Or, if the future lies within the processor, are there any power differences recorded when pairing a processor with DDR2 or DDR3 RAM (of the same speed, or faster)?

I'm confused by your question.

Are you asking if using an on-die(CPU) memory controller uses less power than using the north bridge? Like AM2+ compared to LGA775? I'd assume so, but probably every so slightly.

Are you asking if the south bridge uses more power on a chipset w/o an integrated memory controller? Not to my knowledge. More or less depending what's on there (the south bridge).

Still kind of confused where the south bridge comes in. Memory is tied with either the NB or the CPU, depending where the memory controller is.

Not sure of any articles on chipset power consumption that specific.
