Well it is little tough to get the PC with quality parts under 250...
Maybe if you can extend till $290, then you can check out this AM3 setup...

AMD Sempron 140 + BIOSTAR TA785G3HD AM3 AMD 785G

RAM - 2GB Crucial

DVD Burner

HDD - 250GB Samsung F3/ Seagate 7200.12

PSU + CASE -
Antec 200 + Antec EA 380
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

Total - ~$290 And except the mobo, all the other components have Free Shipping...
Though you might feel that the case and PSU are costlier, IMO they are of high quality and will last you maybe even for your next build and is well worth it...
And many have been successful unlocking the cores of the Sempron, making it a Dual core...

^ Haha in 1 thread you talk about unlocking and overclocking, but why dont you mention it here ?
I have successfully unlocked 2 Semprons to X2 with an ASRock board and those run at 3GHz without any issues...

That is the reason why I suggested a cheap AM3 board with SB 710...

And also if you want to compare the build that I linked and yours, mine has a better case, bigger and faster HDDs...

Yep and retro worse than K8 processing power If you would refund TS if his Sempron fails to unlock and assume he/she even knows how to to do so and there is 100% success - more power to u! Maybe you ought to just stick to recommending mid/high end rigs these days?

^ Well why do I think that this is getting personal ? U rather than sticking to suggesting better builds than to mock others or try to find faults will not help...

^ Lolz I dont see a bad counsel here...
And do you think that the Sempron is that weak ? IMO you should use it first hand to know how it performs...
And for his usage, it has enough power even if the unlock fails...

No chance - not only you advised TS to up his initial budget and for what? A Sempron? Unlock? What batch? Any enthusiast/hardware thread/site links with concrete data on % success?? Again just stick to mid/high end rigs Bad counsel is about as civil i can express my opinion of what u had just posted here mind u ^^

^ Lolz thanks for your advice :p
Let people decide what am good for rather than 1 person...

And if you are pointing out something wrong, a friendly tone would solve things easy...
I dont understand what made you piss off like this ?

The only real question with the Sempron build is if it could play Youtube Flash HD videos without hiccup. As Flash 10.1 isn't yet finalized and released, all the decoding is still done on the cpu.

Personally I don't have first-hand experience with the new Sempron's, so this is a real question of mine.

If it could handle it, then the Sempron would be good enough as music playing isn't a real heavy load on the processor and other video playback is handled on the video card.

^ Frankly if it is only CPU processing, then the HD(720p and above) video playback might have issues...But when combined with the 785G boards, then only they are very good for those tasks...

But FYI the 10.1 would support even GPU acceleration...

Flash 10.1 is still in beta

It may work flawlesly, it may work most of the times, it may work only sometimes. That is the problem with beta software.

Until Flash 10.1 is released and finalized, I really couldn't recommend for a non-technically inclined, non-self-supporting person to install the beta version. They would probably have more questions in the end, or shout in your face if things go haywire.

^ Well did you see that press-release...It is not some third-party support that you are seeing here...but from the companies themselves...If it is there in the beta, then AMD/ ATI will surely push for that so that there is widespread adoption of their ATI Stream...And also Adobe wants to make the Flash more attractive than the HTML 5, which google is seeing as a possible replacement of the Flash on their YouTube website...So Adobe will try and come up with as many new techs included in their Flash player...
