Cnet.com gives the S410 a higher overall rating than the S500. For
image quality on a scale of 1 to 10 they give the S410 an 8 and the
S500 a 7.
I'm puzzled as to why this would be since the S500 is a 5 megapixel
camera and the S410 is 4 megapixel.

If the CCDs have the same physical size, the indivisual sensors of the
S500 has to be smaller than the ones from S410. Smaller sensors equals
more noise.

More megapixels, does not necessarily mean better.

I'll be commenting on this generally.
1) cnet tests are technologically-minded, not photographically-minded, so keep
that in mind. Seek reviews from imaging resource or dpreview for better
analysis of photographic issues.
2) The cnet ratings are often given at points that are apart in time. For
example, a year 2002 PDA might've been given a rating higher than a recently
reviewed model, but it doesn't mean the 2002 model is better than the current
one.

I wouldn't put much faith in anything that Cnet has to say about anything
(especially digital cameras). Check on the known good digicam review sites
such as DPR, Steve's digicams, and Imaging Resource to get the real skinny.
