I5 3570k wont overclock higher then x38?

hi i recently brought and i5 3570k and H77 Pro4-M motherboard i also got a corsair h60 cooling system. i went into the bios settings on my mobo to overclock it but for some reason i can not set the multiplier higher then 38?. ive tried downloading the latest bios update p.17 but still it stays at 38 any help would be appreciated thanks.

If you motherboard isn't good enough sometimes you can't overclock your CPU. I'm not sure this is the case but that's all I could think of.

Is the multiplier locked? Can you move the multiplier down?

sorry to inform you but h77 motherboards wont overclock. I myself have a p8h77vle and an i72600k. I was also dissapointed when i learnt about it

But, on the bright side, the cpu at stock is already very powerful. I would suggest you go return that h60 cooling system for something like a hyper 212 or a xigmatek gaia. Or if you want, the h60 would be good to keep your temps down

yeah i can move the overclock down below but as stated wont go above 3.8ghz well i guess the motherboard is just not great for it. thanks any ways guys

the H77 is not designed for overclocking like the Z77. If you want to reach higher OCs then you need to return the H77 and find a Z77.
