Directx problems xp

Downloaded Myst 4 Revelation and at startup I get "DirectX cannot create device for ares".
Ran DirectX diagnostic tool.
DirectX 3d test 7 failed @ 0x80004005 (generic failure). Test 8 failed @ 0x8876086c (error code). Test 9 failed @ 0x8876086c (error code).
What do I do now??
I already updated DirectX

Update must not have been correct. Start over - Uninstall directx reinstall

I tried downloading both the full download and the minimun downbload. Also updated directx. No results.

Solved----Ati-Radeon said i already have the latest drivers for Radeon 9600 card. I later found an updated driver but was warned against installing it because it was an unsigned driver and could potentially harm my computer. Being desperate, i installed it anyway and it solved my problem.
