Hello, I'm trying to overclock my 3570k to 4 - 4.5ghz on my Extreme 4-m mobo. What's a good (preferably cheap) cooler that could keep it cool when overcolocking. And could it be done. :bounce:

Thanks

You should easily get in that range with either the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO or the XIGMATEK Dark Knight II
Both are large HSF's so that needs to be a consideration if in a smaller case (micro-tower or small form factor)
Note, newegg links used for descriptive value, may be less expensive elsewhere
Hope it helps

If you wanna hit 4.5ghz or Higher you will need a Water Cooling no Air wont go that High cause I have tried it!! I reached 4.4ghz on Air!!

Keep in mind Ivy Bridge throttles at 105 C. If you want to play conservative and be safe, I'd advise keeping it under 90 C!!! I would get a Corsair H80i or H100i & you can go past 4.5ghz :) )

What you are able to get out of your particular mobo/cpu/ram/cooling combo has no bearing on what another exact same mobo/CPU/ram/cooling combo can do. That is why there are no set in stone numbers - hell he may have a highly binned CPU capable of 6GHz without breaking a sweat (I wouldn't count on it though). Anyway OP's goal is 4 up to 4.5 not 4.5+. Either one of those air coolers should get one into that range

I have an air cooler and I'm running at 4.7Ghz with great temps. So IDK what Night Hawk is talking about.

Sure, plenty of good air coolers such as the Noctura DH14 can cool your chip off enough to get past 4.5Ghz.

In my opinion, spend at lesast 50 bucks on an air cooler such as mine, the Scythe Ninja 3. Coolers like the Hyper212Evo will get you to 4.5Ghz at the very most. But I can't knock on the 212Evo it's only like 20 bucks and performs well for the money.

Yeah I didn't realize the Hyper212EVo was all that good. MOST people talk of 4.4/4.5Ghz overclocks and being at 85-90c with those exact coolers. But all setups are different. And I still wouldn't recommend that someone overclock past 4.5Ghz with the Hyper212Evo. It's just not the norm.

And who's spamming? 9 out of 10 people can't overclock past 4.5 maybe 4.6Ghz with the Hyper212 Evo, just like Night Hawk said and I've heard many other people say the same. Just because your that one person that can get a little better overclock that doesn't mean anyones spamming. I'm just speaking of my own personal experiences. Same as everyone else.

I think Mt was referring to his double post as spamming - not to be confused with trolling which I don't think anyone has done in this thread

Yep like I said you really cant overclock past 4.5ghz if you're Lucky but Hyper Evo 212 is a good Budget to overclock that Good Amount :)  I prefer Water Cooling! I just Purchase a Corsair H100i & I'm overclock at 4.9ghz with Voltage of 1.45v with llc Turbo!! Max temps of 88c 12hrs of Stress Testing :)  ohh I also De lidded my Cpu!
