How much to save files on an unreadable external hard drive

I dropped my external hard drive and now it will not read.....the computer technician in my uni said that he cannot fix it though the information on the disc can be saved...how ca this be done and how much will it cost?

Depending on how many GB's worth of data you have, I would say in the range of $1000. Give or take $250.

What kind of external HDD is it? Maybe it's just the case and maybe you could possibly get another external case for your HDD. What is the exact model of this external HDD?

Well that is what I was hoping, its a samsung one, the computer can no longer read it but that could just mean that its the reader that is broken although the disc inside is still in tact.
