Been looking at the Koolance PMP-500 as a replacement for my X20 750 V2 for a while now, what reviews I can find on it it scores very well.

Just occurred to me that it doesn't really fit any of the OEM pumps described in the Sticky. It visually looks like an Eheim pump, which are described as needing a DC-AC converter to run and having relatively low head pressure compared to DDC and D5 pumps. The PMP-500 is praised for its strong head pressure and from the looks of the Martins review, doesn't require any converter to use, just a Molex connector.
At one point in the review Martin comments that the Impeller is similar to an Iwaki pump.

So can anyone identify what kind of pump it is? A modified Eheim or Iwaki, or is it an original design from Koolance?

Martin does reference the PMP 500 to have R&D from Koolance similar to the 35x PWM and the Apogee Drive + H220 pump by Swiftech respectively... I'd say in house.

Might also want to post a comment on martins blog, should be glad to help you out in that dept.
