I have a thinkpad t20 and recently (without any drivers changed) I
started having an intermittent problem. Every once in a while when I
turn it on, the screen is large, like the IBM logo on POST fills the
lower-right 2/3 of the screen. It is almost as if the resolution is
set too high.
I have played with the resolution in windows, setting it to the
highest and setting it to 640x480. Nothing works.
The only thing I can do is set it to 640x480 and turn off expansion
using the command line. I can then view the whole image in the lower
right 2/3 of the screen.
I have messed with all of the video settings in the bios and I cannot
find anything. THere must be and IBM patch somewhere.
All the most recent drivers and BIOS updates are installed. I am
running win 2000 pro.
I think that it has something to do with the external video interface
since the external monitor works fine when plugged in. Also for some
reason it insists on installing 2 default monitors and a TV when
nothing is plugged into the video port. Please help.

If an external monitor works, the most likely problem is the plug that
connects the video cable to the motherboard, It is a very common problem on
a T20, the later models had a tie down on the plug.
Pop the keyboard and re-seat the plug. It should take all of about 30
seconds.
