CAN I DELETE THE HUNDREDS OF BACKUP SET FILES (SOME DATING BACK TO 2009)

I HAVE AN EXTERNAL HDD THAT WAS RUN ON VISTA FOR YEARS, IS CURRENTLY ATTACHED & INDEXED IN MY NEW WIN 7 COMPUTER? IS COMP READING THE BACK UP FILE OR IS THE ACTUAL FILE EXISTING TUCKED AWAY SOMEWHERE. AFRAID TO DELETE AND SYSTEM INFORMS ANOTHER BACK UP IS DUE BUT NEEDS AROUND 430+/-GB OF SPACE...i DONT HAVE THAT MUCH ON A SINGLE DRIVE BESIDES C: (666GB FREE/1TB) D:(2GB/16GB) G:(68/750GB) H:(89GB/1TB) N:(165/500GB) MAYBE TOO MUCH INFO BUT WOULD LOVE TO GET RID OF THOSE NOTIFICATIONS AND HAVE MORE DISK SPACE. LIKE I SAID 100\'S OF BACKUP SET ALL CONTAIN MY MUSIC ETC.

  1. Are there files you actually need on the drive, or is it just useless backups?
Please don't type in CAPS LOCK. It gives everyone a headache.
  2. It doesn't give me a head ache.......
I usually go through and delete the oldest back-ups. i keep several at all times, but there isn't any need to keep them all........ Good luck
