Blurry/out of focus/"glowing" fonts after resolution change

After I changed the resolution from 800x600 to higher on my desktop, the fonts became blurry/out of focus -- or as if there is some "glow" behind them. I've manipulated resolutions (from the highest 1680x1050, matching the monitor size), DPI (including stretching the ruler to exactly match inches), and font sizes to no improvement.

I then tried to be back to the previous settings as far as I recalled them -- but can't get read of the "glow" and return to the previous font clarity!! Perhaps someone could advise an optimal settings combination for windows XP.

That is probably shadowing - You want transparency. Give this a try.

Thanks for responding. I checked the settings and they are the same as recommended in the link....
