How complicated is overclocking?

Building my new PC and have everything but the GPU picked out. I was looking at either the 7870 xt or the 7950 HD but would only go with either of them if I overclock them. Just wondering if overclocking is really as simple as everyone says it is even for a overclocking noob like me. Thanks!

Hi,

It's really as easy as moving some sliders to the right and checking stability and temps are good.
It's SO simple.
