There's an non-WHQL 10.3 driver coming out tomorrow
Can't wait!

Interesting. I mean really though, if you have a 4800 series card, 5700 series card, or 5800 series card, do you really need any improvement on Devil May Cry 4? :heink:  Not exactly a demanding game there. My two 3850s had no trouble with that game and even one was able to be respectable at 1680x1050.

Anyway, hope they keep squeezing out more performance. :bounce:

But does it finally, once and for all fix the GSOD and vertical line issue?

I read somewhere(i think fudzila) that Cat 10.4 will take care of all GSOD problems, maybe 10.3 does the same too

Well i hope so, though i'm not an owner of a HD 5000 series, got an HD4850;)

I've never experienced vertical line issue with my 5870, it this really that common?

Yes and no, there have been enough reports from those who have experienced it for AMD/ATi to have finally acknowledged it back in January but there is still no reason being given for what actually causes it and while I have my suspicions I too do not have access to a 5 series card to experiment with.
March 16, 2010 10:04:35 PM

My 5750's have been spectacular with no issues like that. They also DID solve it for a number of people, though there seem to be a few still having issues, but that could be other problems than just drivers. Might be drivers too, but its hard to say.
March 17, 2010 7:28:00 AM

a 2-5% increase in FPS isn't really that much of a performance increase. In real numbers, if a game runs at 50fps for example, it will climb at 51-53 fps. Not a life changer!
Anyways, I'm more than happy with my 4870 which I got 18 months ago and still rocks any game I play (no, I don't play crysis) at 1080p
March 17, 2010 8:09:11 AM

Ah good new for my 4890! Keep rocking!
March 17, 2010 10:57:37 AM

bashyrkh what do you expect. Driver update after 6 months to bring another 30% improvement?

its not game changing at all but yet on review sites you see that 285 winning by 5% over 4890 is called clear winner ;)

its all about PR, yes these changes (the small ones ) wont bring anything new to your experience. Its just preparation for Fermi to look NOT TOO MUCH better.

because if fermi is like 15% better and after these drivers its only 10% better thats huge in PR

BTW I still have my HUGE cursor problem on my 5850 and with 10.2 so its NOT FIXED

about the GSOD - if its the one that when you watch some flash your pc hangs due to driver crashing - yes I have this only when I installed Flash 10.1 :)

and I BET its Flash idiots problem- thats the most idiotic software of all times - requiring like supercomputer to run a flash video - and about 5x slower than normal video player.

anyway disabling hardware acceleration for flash seems to fix it and I havent had problems since. Waiting on either ATI driver fix or Flash fix not sure who is guilty (can be both)
March 17, 2010 11:10:11 AM

rawsteel, do you have 2 monitors?

Have you tried Cat 10.2 Hotfix?

There was a hotfix for 10.1 (I believe it was 10.1) that came out about a week before the next month's update that supposedly fixed the GSOD problems (cleared mine right up, though mine only did it frequently when I overclocked the card, otherwise it just randomly crashed, really ruining my Fallout 3 game :(  )

10.2 fixed the bugs with Flash acceleration for me. 10.2 did quite a bit for me, actually.

I'll let you know.... The beta version did not, though.

Yes, why?
March 17, 2010 3:13:22 PM

yeah I was JUST going to post this, and same suspicion :)
March 17, 2010 3:14:29 PM

If someone tries it on desktop and confirms it I will move on and install it :)
March 17, 2010 3:16:09 PM

They're having some trouble with the links- they are working to get them fixed now:
CatalystMaker on twitter: "sorry all - the download links need updating - give it a few minutes. will let you know when its fixed"
March 17, 2010 3:55:36 PM

I was just checking, as the only time I have seen that reported as happening was with 2+ monitors. I know several drivers were supposed to help with that (like 9.12 HF) but I guess they haven't fixed it completely.
March 17, 2010 4:37:07 PM

really, hm, that's interesting.

I will probably try to play with some settings this weekend and see if I can figure out something
March 17, 2010 4:48:01 PM

I can't find it in the AMD/ATI webiste... Was it even released already?
March 17, 2010 5:01:06 PM

They have been up for a while, on the underground.amd.com site. Though the desktop hot link still points to mobility (it might still work mind you)

EDIT: Award for not refreshgin before I post goes to me, Thanks flyinfinni
March 17, 2010 5:06:05 PM

I hope they didn't forget to make them
March 17, 2010 5:33:59 PM

Anybody install the "mobility" driver yet on a desktop?
March 17, 2010 5:40:30 PM

They've fixed the links now, so you can download the proper drivers for desktop!
March 17, 2010 5:43:39 PM

Yes they did ....Thanks!
March 17, 2010 5:53:24 PM

hey anybody , post any benchmarks before/after if you can :)

I will post also later
March 17, 2010 7:44:38 PM

You didn't mention this but it said in that article that the driver fixed bezel correction issues with eyefinity.
March 17, 2010 8:30:53 PM

How do I check what version I have now?
March 17, 2010 8:34:39 PM

Open Catalyst Control Center and go to the information center. SHould tell you all the details.
March 17, 2010 8:59:37 PM

Is this the latest?

Just ran the Dirt 2 Benchmark with these drivers.

Max Settings - 8X AA - 1920x1080

Average FPS ~ 70.3
Minimum FPS ~ 61.3
Max (that I saw) FPS ~ 79

This is with max overclock in CCC, mind you.
March 17, 2010 9:20:52 PM

Link to the new drivers?

Also, Do i have to uninstall the old ones, or what?
March 17, 2010 9:22:50 PM

Well, the only Benchmark I did (and a pretty messy one at that) was on Dirt 2 with the latest patch.

1920x1080, 8xMSAA in Game, 16xAF and Adaptive AA in CCC (not sure if I am supposed to force these), VSync in Game (so FPS capped at 60), All in Game Settings Maxed, Standard Cat. AI.

Cat. 9.12 Hotfix:

Average: 55
Minimum: 39

Cat. 10.3a:

Average: 58.2
Minimum: 44.0

Which is a great improvement in the minimum FPS. However, I don't think that benchmark is necessarily the most consistent, so I should have done several runs and averaged. Regardless, it seems like a decent driver as my comp hasn't bust into flames yet.
March 17, 2010 9:24:50 PM

@ Alextheawesome: What were your benchmark results from before you installed the 10.3a driver?

Edit: @BuilderbobFTW- Unknown_13 posted the link just above here. Its probably best to uninstall and then resintall the new driver, but you probably don't have to unless you have problems installing it over the top of your other drivers.

Why, When has that happened in any recent driver updates?

/Sarcasm
March 17, 2010 9:26:08 PM

And also post all forced settings, in game settings, etc.
March 17, 2010 9:30:00 PM

Alright, Cool. When i get on my desktop i'll download those. Anyways, Do I Uninstall the old ones? Do I have to install it in the OS partition?
March 17, 2010 9:30:20 PM

I did a full uninstall (using Catalyst Install Manager), reboot, install of new drivers, reboot.
March 17, 2010 9:31:20 PM

The drivers will go where they need to go. You can choose where to extract the files for installation to though.
