Upgrde for NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

Get an HD5770/HD5830. You must have a decent PSU for the 8800GTX, so you can handle the newer HD cards.

why even recomend the 5830 when the 5850 is so much better for only £21 or $32 more?

here in the UK ithe cheapest I can find in my main shops:

Aria Saphire 5830 £187.99 $288.13

tekheads Asus 5850 £217.99 $334.11 (they have free delivery so knocked £7 off their price to = aria)

so is a £30 or $45 difference today

this 5830 price is cheaper than the other day and the 5850 is more.

sounds like you guys are getting a little bit stiffed for the 5850 - or are getting much fairer prices on your 5830's  

The 5850 makes a nice upgrade.
The 5830 seems to drop in frame rate more than expected in some benchmarks and be almost the at the same performance level as the 5770:
