Is a good video card worthless if you only have 2gb ram?

I keep seeing threads where users say that you cant game with 2gb of ram.

This is my first venture into pc gaming and built my first pc on a budget.

Phenom x2 555 (unlocks to x4)
HD 4870 1gb
corsair 620hx
1x2gb ddr3 1600


is 2gb of ram going to hold me back that much? Or can I live with it for now until I find a suitable 2gb stick to add? Are we talking drastic framerate drops or what in terms or performance?

2GB would be the least amount you would want
try it out and go from there.
