Hi, i have rolled back my desktop several times, laastly to Dec 12th 2012 because of windows updates installed on the 14th although my automated update settings are for allowing download f update only...they were instsalled regardless. SO I finally rolled back tothe 11th or 12th.
All of a sudden yesterday the xp pro desktop icons keep self arranging themselves randomly and ignore the "lock icons" settings etc.I also noticed tha soem software is missing not only from the desktop but from Control Panel eg Olympus variuos photo editing software. I have a program installed named nView but it is not helpingn me maintain reset settings. I know that all settings are correct.
At one point I had thee desktopp split in two with two different backcgrouns and colors of icons (mosts recent and old settings) Really weird. I ran antimalware bytes and every single scan possible in KIS 2012 findig no issues whatsoever. I wrote KIS about thiss regardless as I thikn there may be something on here that is not detected yet. Wht do yuo think? I cant imagine it but it is like someone is on my pc and screwing with it. No others on here, just me and none are listed as being on here.
I'm so frustrated as I have tons of icons that need to be maintaiined in orderly fashion. Who has time to rearange these ea time you access the desktop. I've not used the pc in a whie except to run scans with KIS as I have been ill. I am running Windows media player, that is about it. I may have opened email a few times, no major changes. Cher

In case you don't know, doing a system restore does more then just remove updates. If you installed any programs then did a system restore prior to the installaion date, then those programs will most likely stop working as the registry will no longer contain the information for those programs.
