Hello everyone. I am thinking of upgrading my current PC (which is supposed to be in the signature, but I will post it anyways) by refreshing it with a new component or components. That means, no new PC, just an upgrade for around $400-450. The specs are as follows:
CPU: Phenom II X4 955
Motherboard: Asus M4A78T-E
RAM: 6GB OCZ Gold
Video card: HD4890
PSU: 520W CoolerMaster
Optics, HDD and other stuff are not so important and, to be fair, I don't even know what models they are. So, what do you think? I was thinking of getting something like HD5870, adding another 4890, or replacing my mobo and CPU for something like PII X6 1055T + 890FX mobo. Of course, I will have to count PSU cost into that as well (if I decide to change the graphics card). The point is to be able to play newer games (like Metro 2033) without that much lag.
Your best upgrades would be to get an HD5870 and maybe an SSD for your operating system and games. The SSD will make your system a lot more snappy. IMO it is not worth upgrading your CPU to an x6 since no game will take full advantage of it. The only benefit of an x6 is for encoding but even still it doesn't justify the upgrade from the 955 which is a very strong CPU.
