It's been a while since I've played any of the T2 FMs. So I decided to
installed T2 into my system which is run by XP sp2. Immediately after
installing, I dl'd the l.18 patch. When I proceeded to launch the game I
got a message stating "Indeo Video Playback The program you are trying to
run requires a current Indeo codec.
To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows,
please contact the manufacturer at http://indeo.ligos.com. OK, so I click
on the link expecting to find a free download of this codec. No cigar, they
want 14.95 to download this codec. Is there any other way to get T2 to run
under XP.
Also if it means anything, my vid card is a Radeon 9800 pro with 4.11 CAT
drivers.

IIRC the codec you need is on the Thief 2 CD.
Can you watch the AVIs on the CD through media player?
Chances are the latest Indeo codecs will handle the in game videos but the
program itself looks for a specific version number but doesn't acknowledge a
later version.

System Shock 2 had a problem where if you had Indeo version 5.02 instead of
5.01 the movies would not play during the game (something along those lines
at least)

This sort of thing still happens. I just installed a game (Homeworld 2 I
think) and it told me I didn't have DirectX 9 installed. I did, but it was
DirectX 9c. Fortunately it didn't abort the install.

thanks, I've dl'd the codec from that site and it works perfectly now.
Ironically when I was installing the codec it said that I had a newer
version already installed. I guess the newer version is incompatible with
T2 or something.

The problem with the codecs on the T2 CD is that they don't stay installed
with XP. It's a pain to have to keep reinstalling them. If you have the XP
codecs, they stay put once you've got them.
