I could use some help regarding the set up and purchase of a proper internal TV tuner please. Here is the deal:
I just moved into a new place and my housemate already has COX HD digital cable running throughout. I don't have a TV. But I do have a large flat screen monitor and a full tower PC with an open PCI slot. I would very much like to watch HD TV on my monitor using a TV tuner.
What I think I know: If I want to watch HDTV I need a cable box and a HD compatible TV tuner. (wall->cable box->TV tuner->pc monitor)
What I have questions about: So I can watch HDTV but not if the channels are "encrypted". He's got all the channels available and I want to be able to use all of them.
Specifically- WHAT DO I NEED TO DO THIS???
Do I need an HD ready cable box?
What tuner do I need?
My graphics card is about 5 years old, can it handle HD?
I have Windows XP, which proper TV tuners work with windows XP?
anything else etc?
Thank You for your input!!
I have cable TV and a Windows XP computer as well as a Windows 7 64-bit computer. The Hauppauge capture device (HVR-1950) is an external device and I move it from computer to computer as the need arises.
With the HVR-1950, you can also record TV shows for future viewing by setting up a timer program (included or free download). Here is a nice TV program guide: http://www.titantv.com/
HVR-1950 will work with Windows XP AND with Windows 7 (I don't like to miss my Spongebob episodes!). Keep in mind that this product will permit you to watch everything that you can watch on your TV at present; it will not do any de-coding of special programming such as Pay-Per-View (movies)
