Hi

IF I have 2 video cards (SLI) both working at x16 and connect any other card like a raid controller or/and nic or/and a sound card working at x8 or x4 or x1; will this drop the pci-e speed from the SLI to something like "x16 x8" or "x8 x8"?

thanks

What I really want is to find a motherboard that can run a setup like this:

Pci-e slot: x16 video card (SLI)
Pci-e slot: x16 video card (SLI)
Pci-e slot: x8 raid card
Pci-e slot: x1 sound card
or/and
Pci-e slot: x1 nic card

Will these motherboards be able of running it?
EVGA X58 SLI Classified
Or
EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way

yes the classified will run like that but so you know the difference between running x8 and x16 is not gonna be noticeable in the real world it only shows differences on benchmarks.

My setup will be running 2 x16 + 1 x8 + 1 x1 (all in the pci 2.0 slots) total = 41 lanes.

This means that I will be using 41 lanes in the pci-e 2.0.

Intel says that I can use up to 36!

If that is true then my setup will be something like this:
2 x8 + 1 x8 + 1 x1 = 25 lanes
OR
(1 x16 + 1 x8) + 1 x8 + 1 x1 = 33 lanes (SLI running one card at x16 and the other at x8 if that is possible)

Is that correct?
