I need RAM advice

I'm currently working/planning on a build for some time now. Current setup:
i7-950
EVGA x58 FTW3
90gb OCZ Vertex 2 ssd
Process of getting (2) 6870s
WD 2Tb Caviar Black HDD

The over-clocking I will be doing is min. mainly do to my lack of experience in over-clocking for now. Anyways I need 12gb of RAM for the gaming/Design that I do. From what I've read it is easier on the motherboard to get 3x4gb. I have been looking at the 1600mhz but should I really be looking for 1333mhz? I could use some recommendations as well. (currently leaning toward Patriot viper ii sect 7, and the corsair dominator) Any and all help welcome.

Would I have to over-clock to get to the 1600? Probably why I'm leaning towards the Patriot mem for their low CAS but I just can't find a lot of reviews on em.

I recommend Corsair. They might be a bit more expensive, but they are better supported. They also have customer forums specifically for support and overclocking.
