am getting limited or no connectivity error with wireless.How do I get IP address in the computer?

Why are you concerned with IP address ? The issue is probably with wireless reception or interference.

Try raising the router above furniture level, experiments with channels, if you detect strong neighbouring wifi networks, move to a channel 5 stops away from strongest.

Relocate cordless phone base or video sender away from router.
