Most RELIABLE SSD for the Marvell 9182 controller

I have a X58 Gigabyte G1 Sniper that has the Marvell 9182 controller (NOT the 9128 i.e 2 PCIe lanes instead of just one).

What is the general consensus on the most reliable drive that works the best with this controller? (which AFAIK doesn't support TRIM commands).

I have no interest in a platform upgrade (my system is only one month old) and can't afford the PCIe card solution.

I am interested in a 120-128GB drive at a 100-150€ budget and so far my options are the following (in price-ascending order, forgive the long list):

  • A-DATA S510 AS510S3-120GM-C - 110€ + S&H
  • OCZ Agility III AGT3-25SAT3-120G - 111€ + S&H
  • Corsair Force 3 CSSD-F120GB3-BK - 119€ +S&H
  • OCZ Petrol PTL1-25SAT3-128G - 120€ + S&H
  • Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 - 120€ + S&H
  • Intel 330 SSDSC2CT120A3K5 - 133€
  • OCZ Vertex III VTX3-25SAT3-120G - 134€ + S&H
  • Corsair Force GT CSSD-F120GBGT-BK - 139€ + S&H
  • Samsung 830 Series MZ-7PC128B - 143€ + S&H
  • OCZ Octane OCT1-25SAT3-128G - 143€ + S&H
  • Patriot Pyro 120GB - 146€ + S&H
  • Kingston HyperX3K SH103S3/120G - 150€
  • Verbatim SATA III 2.5'' 120GB - 150€
  • Kingston SSDNow V100 (SV100S2/128G) - 154€
  • OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-128G - 155€

The Intel 520 would prolly be the best but it also costs 180€, much more than what I'd be willing to pay...

Of course, all other things being mostly equal I would like the best built/performing drive but I am willing to sacrifice a few extra MB/s of top speed in favor of better reliability and less headaches.
Reversely, if we are talking about minimal performance gains, and wide price margin, I'd rather get the least expensive drive.

    Thank you!!!

Go for the Crucial M4. It's 23€ cheaper than the Samsung 830 and they are both very reliable.

Just realize that whatever drive you purchase that you will not get maximum advertised speeds; although the performance will be better than if the drive was on a Marvell 9128 port.

My Normal recommendations are: Curcial M4, Samsung 830, and Intel 510 or 520 - which of the 3, the one that is cheapest - In your case thats the M4.

There is NOT going to be a big diff in performance between any of them, with a couple of exceptions. For Example the Agillity III, you could stick on your Intel Sata II port and It would perform the same as if it was on a Intel sata III port.

So you are correct in looking to buy based on reliability (least user problems).

I am planning to make my purchase tomorrow so if by any chance you would have an additional suggestion I'd love to hear them.
Currently going with the M4 (unless I find an other reason to rethink the 830).

So, any other suggestions I should know of?

    Thanks!!

Either or would be an excellent choice.
