285GTX or ATI?

Just recently bought an EVGA GTS 250 from TigerDirect. It doesn't get reconized when I start windows and I don't think it's working at all because it stays really cold. I also noticed that it doesn't snap into place on the slot, but I don't think that's the problem because I'm pretty sure that I pushed it in as far as it will go. I know it's not the slot itself because my old graphics card still works great. I'm thinking it's my PSU, but it's 500W so I still doubt it but I have no other ideas.

Okay:

A) The 5850 is a much better card, as it is faster, cheaper, and has better tech than the GTX 285

B) What PSU are you using, IE more specific than 500w because not all 500w are created equal.

C) What are your full system specs and what resolution do you play at?

The new 470 that drops on march 26 will reportedly sell for $349 ....and is reportedly 5-10% faster than the 5850 now selling for $340. We could argue all day about the merits of each based upon supposition but in a week, it won't be a guess anymore.....I say wait a week before deciding which way to go.

But I gotta ask, what was your old GFX card ?
