Unfortunately my 450W Corsair had to be RMA'd so I'm stuck deciding between not having a main computer and using the family computer which can't play anything really or using the stock 300W power supply that originaly came with my computer until I get my Corsair back.

First the power supply itself:

It's a Delta 300W PSU and it is 80 Plus Bronze certified.

The specs

+12v1 - 10A
+12v2 - 12A
+3.3v - 20A
+5v - 16A
+5vsb - 2A
-12v - -0.5A

+3.3v and +5v total not to exceed 127W
+3.3v and +5v and +12v output not to exceed 299W

The components it will power:

Athlon II X2 235e (45W)
1 HDD
1 Optical Drive
2 120mm blue LED fans
GT 240 512MB DDR3 (300W minimum with 18A on +12v)
6 GB DDR2 RAM

I just dont know how to figure if it will run with that split +12v rail since I dont know much about split rails or power supplies in general besides the basics.

I punched everything in the Antec PSU calculator and it came up with 227W.

Um well you can just try it and see but I don't think I'd really want to run any games given that the GT240 runs off mobo power and 12A is not good. I also don't know exactly how split 12V works but from the looks of it I'm guessing there's 2 12V rails? So use the 12A one if that's the case... but again... if the GT240 is pulling some amps in gaming you can melt things. Ideally it'll melt the PSU but it could cause mobo damage. I really would just stick to desktop stuff until your PSU comes back.

I think I'll play it safe and not run the GT 240.

Well the 300W was the one installed when I first got the computer so I think I'll run the computer like it was stock with the onboard video, and it should be able to handle a couple of 120's, so I'll at least be able to get some work done.

Thanks for your opinions

He could do alot worse and Delta units actualy arent that bad for a cheap unit. The GT 240 is very low powered card and the rest of his system is low power requirement at the most that system will draw 250watts but thats with GPU RAM and CPU at full tilt. For the most part that system will run on 150 watts.
