Ntoskrnl exe missing or corrupt windows xp

Hello,
I own am HP Pavilion m6 with an AMD Vision A10 with Radeon HD Graphics. Not long ago, due to a virus of some sort, my hard drive ended up completely wiped. Recently, I tried to install WinXP off a bootable USB drive. I turn it on to a black screen, stating that it could not start due to the fact that ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. Pressing any key restarts the system. What do I do now?

Make sure you were booting from the USB drive and not the hard drive, which would have no ntoskrnl.exe file to execute.
