I have a M2N32 SLI Deluxe Mobo using a Vista 32 bit OS w/ 800 watt coolmax power supply and would like to upgrade the video card which is currently a 7900 series Nvidia card.

What's the newest / largest card that will fit on this MOBO? I have read some have said a 9600 is the maximum, where as have read a couple install a 9800 on it. If the 9800 would fit on it, can I also install a GTS 250, GTX 275, or a GTX 285?

To my understanding the limitation are capacitors on the card taking up space, restricting the installation of a larger card.

I have no interest in SLi, simply want to get another year or two out of this machine with one last card....

Thanks in advance.

HD5770 will be an excellent upgrade for you.

I'm running a MSI 275 GTX Twin Frozr OC on my M2N32 Sli Deluxe. It's running for the last 8 months, and never had a problem :D

Does it matter if you get PCI express 2.0 or 2.1? I'm not clear on the difference....

They are backward compatible. If you have no interest in SLI you should be looking at ATI cards as they are both significantly better and significantly cheaper than their Nvidia counterparts at the moment.
What cards you should be looking at depends on your processor, your monitor's native resolution and your preferred budget. In general the HD5770 and the HD5850 are the best cards for the money on the market right now.

Mmm, there's a lot of troubles with a significant deal of the ATI cards. Driver issues for the 5870 giing them stripes and BSOD. If you want to upgrade now, you couls wait for the GTX 470 or 480.

btw: I upgraded my M2N32 SLI Deluxe to bios 2207 without a problem yesterday :sol:

At that range, an HD5770 will be the maximum I'd ever put into that CPU.

Anything more powerful than an HD5770 or similar performing cards would be bottle-necked by your processor but all the cards you mention should fit in your slot.

I also run the same MOBO (M2N32sli-Deluxe) and have an 850w power, AMD athlon 64x2 6400 cpu @ 3.21mhz - 8g of ram in with Windows 7x64 - Samsung 23" wide screen I was wondering what GPU would be best. Nvidia or ATI? GTX285/295 or 2 gtx260 in sli? ATI HD5870 or HD5970?

Well you guys steered me in a direction I am pleased with. I ended up getting a ATI HD5850 instead of an Nvidia. I upgraded chip from the AMD 5200 to the Phenom II X4 940, and last but not least upgraded Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit so that I can make used of the extra RAM my Vista was not seeing. Just like having a new computer! BRAVO!

Thanks again!

i have the same Mother board with an X4 9750 CPU and 4 GB of DDR2 ram.

I need to upgrade my two Geforce 7900 GTX cards they just do not hack it anymore

Question 1: HD5770 is ATI so SLI will not work? Does that mean i only want one of these cards?

Question 2: If I want to use SLI which Geforce card should i get

Thank you in advance

Not meaning to hijack the thread :p
BUT I have the sane M2N SLI mobo, and just bought a GTS450(Which I believe is about the bit-weaker counterpart of an HD 5770) and I have problems booting :/
It just gives a 1 long-3 short beeps error which as I found means something with the graphics adapter.. I made sure everything else supports is(500watt PSU etc), I even plugged the card in a much older mobo with 400W PSU and it worked..
Any ideas? :(

Just an update to an old thread... I used this thread amongst a lot of others to help upgrade my m2n32 sli deluxe in June 2012.

I started out with a GeForce 8800GTS 320mb that did very well for ~3 yrs, replaced it in a pinch with a GT520 from BBuy. The gt520 was not great at all, ran Diablo 3 well, but lagged with a lot of video, stuff I had never experienced with the 8800gts. I had 2GB of Crucial ddr2-800 ram. My cpu is an Athlon x2 5600+ 2.81ghz (next upgrade before complete overhaul). Thanks to you guys i am set up now.

I got a new EVGA GTX560 superclocked, the 1GB model and also 8GB (4x2gb) of G.Skill DDR2-800 PC2-6400.

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ -$54.99 x 2 @ Newegg
EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1461-KR GeForce GTX560 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCIe 2x16 - $189 - $30rebate @ Newegg

My system is rockin' now. Worked first boot, no issues yet... fingers crossed. Thanks again and I hope this can help someone out.
