I have a Thinkpad A22p in its docking station. Speakers are attached to
the dock.
When I plug headphones into the side of the laptop, I would like for the
speakers to go silent and just hear the sound on the headphones. Any
way to accomplish this without unplugging the speakers or turning off
the volume on them?

Should happen automatically when you plug in the headphones. Have you tried
it?

Yes, I've tried it (many times), and no it doesn't. I get simultaneous
sound from the headphones and the speakers. To disable the speakers
when I've plugged in the headphones, I have to either unplug the
speakers or turn the volume switch all the way off. And I've tried
other headphones with the same result.
But the headphones are going into the headphone jack on the laptop
itself, which is easy to reach. The speakers are plugged into the
docking station, which requires a flashlight and some contorting.

By the way, this A22p is running WinXP Pro, not the Win2k that
originally came with it. I don't know if the original A22p + Win2k +
dock exhibits this same behavior.

I am working on a Thinkpad R32 and a docking station. It does exactly
the same thing. I also find it irretating that the systems speakers do
not turn off after connecting a hifi to the docking station. But this is
almost certainly a hardware problem and can't be fixed by changing any
settings of the operating system(using xp pro).
