Jordan Thomas, a.k.a. 'null', one of the developers of TDS at the now
defunct IonStorm Austin had this to offer for the Thief community:

"And just so you know, we're still trying to get the editor released! Keep
the faith - I'll wager that your patience will yet yield rewards."

Check out the thread:

Oh, and by the way, for those of you who didn't know, the infamous 'Cradle'
from the Deadly Shadows is his baby. There's a seven or was it ten page
article on the March issue of PC Gamer UK on that level and how it came
about. The article has been a topic of much discussion on the TTLG, and
everyone seems to agree that it's a great read.

Fabulous news on the editor! Here's hoping!

Isn't Ion Storm history already? It's taken more than half a year, and
in the meantime the company's gone bely up. Sorry to say it, but at
this time, I find a T3 SDK as likely as me getting an invitation to
Nina and Rolf's next New Years Eve party.

You're free to feel that way, of course. But this comes straight from the
source. That's about as official an announcement as we can expect to get.
Jordan Thomas has proved himself a man worth his word during the development
of TDS, telling us what to expect and when, and what not to expect. He's a
trustworthy guy. In many ways he was the key contact and 'voice' of Ion
Storm towards the fan base during the development of TDS. When he says what
he says, I trust that he isn't simply yanking our collective rope arrows,
but has a valid reason for keeping our spirits up. It isn't a guarantee
that the editor will definitely be released, but they are doing what they
can to get it into our hands.

Ion Storm has closed its doors, that much is true, but the announcement was
made after the fact. I'm betting that the editor will be released. It's
still in Eidos Interactive's interests to do so. Although Ion Storm is no
more, the Thief brand hasn't gone anywhere, and from what I recall, Eidos
has stated that both the Thief and the Deus Ex series will continue -- in
the hands of another studio, obviously.

And just to be exact, the community won't be getting an SDK, only an editor,
and even that won't include every tool that the devs had at their disposal,
but enough to allow us to create Fan Missions for TDS.

Six months isn't really that long to wait for the editor, either. I don't
think so, anyway. And should we ultimately not get the editor, there's
always the Dark Mod project :)

Guess that settles it then. Great job on the Cradle, BTW. Not to
detract from the rest of T:DS, which was very good, but the Cradle was
truly in a different league than the rest of the game.

Oh, I think there's a much greater chanse for a Thief 3 SDK ;)

Your compliments would probably reach the real Null a.k.a. Jordan Thomas
better on the TTLG forums, where he's one of the moderators. You don't
really believe that the poster of the comment above is him, do you?

Greger.

Neener-neener :p

Sorry about that -- only it felt... appropriate ;)

But look at this on the bright side. Chances are that you'll now get your
invitation. ;)

=)

Well, Maybe it did feel appropriate, but I really am just as happy for
this as the rest of the community. I love to be proven wrong when my
estimates are pessimistic.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
