I am migrating to a new mobo which is ASUS P7P55D-E LX LGA 1156 Intel P55. My old mobo is GIGABYTE GA-H55M-UD2H LGA 1156 Intel H55. I really don't want to fresh install my OS when I change the mobo. I heard that windows 7 can automatically repair and install new driver upon reboot, but this is most likely to happen if the new and the old mobos have the same chipset. Would this be possible in my case? H55 vs P55
Not if you're using the onboard video with the h55. I tried switching to another cpu without the onboard graphics, and windows 7 crashed. The same will happen when you add a separate video card to the p55 board.
Some i3 and i5 cpus have the graphics on a separate die of the cpu, which is what I use. If you are already using a separate video card for your h55, then you may be able to make the switch without windows crashing.
