Dell inspiron cd rom not able to detect cd

Hello, I am not able yo detect any cd/dvd (for that matter an empty cd/dvd) in my DELL Inspiron laptop.

Humm, maybe it's broken, sorry they have a very limited life span, yes some seem to run forever but it's quite typical that these die out. Good news is a new DVD player is only around $20.00 from newegg with free shipping. It's just not worth the headache to mess with it.
This is assuming it appears in device manager as still being hooked up.
