Hello,
My system crashes with every overclock setting that I apply. If I do something small like just up the multi. by .5 or so. CRASH. I have tested memory, my cpu temp dont go high, I have used many different voltages. even tried pulling out two sticks of ram. system specs are.
fx-8350 4.0 out of box
msi 990fxa-gd80v2 motherboard
corsair h80i water cpu cooler
16 GB 4x4 corsair vengence 1600 mhz (only 8 installed now)
msi hd 7870 hawk edition x2 (crossfire)
brand new 2TB seagate barracuda 7200rpm
corsair HX 1050w psu 80 plus gold cert.

Did you adjust your LLC in bios and switch off all power saving options in bios as well?
March 3, 2013 2:11:49 PM

yes all power saving is off and i have not adjusted the LLC many of these threads say its not needed and to just leave it on auto. I'll try it though. Any suggestions on voltage settings? Everyone is talking about 5.0ghz stable on 8350. I'd be happy if i could get 4.6-4.8 ghz stable. but everything crashes even if all I change is multi. up .5 or 1. So I can get 4.3 or 4.4 stableish lol it will run 3dmark11 sometimes but crashes under real gameplay. Yes I am a damn NOOB. so any help or suggestions to help me learn are greatly appreciated.

Well, I was sitting at 4.7ghz and very happy, Cinebench score was around 7.90. I got a new mobo and right now I'm sitting at 4.6ghz 7.77 Cinebench and very stable with 1.46Vcore, 25% LLC, and it is very fast, 5ghz is people who got great chips and have custom water cooling. Don't go for that, you are reasonable with your estimate of 4.6-4.8. I have FSB at 210mhz, I also had to lower my ram because it doesnt want to boot at normal sppeds with my FX. Try lowering your RAM and try to boot.

Up your frequency until you cant boot Windows and then slightly up Vcore only until you can boot Windows and start Prime95. Then tweak Vcore up from there, I don't like going over 1.5v on this chip but others have. I wouldnt recommend it at all tho.

So there is no LLC option in my bios. i do have cpu pll voltage and it is set to auto. also bios only goes up 1.44v on cpu voltage. (weird) i can however go high with msi control center software. what do you suggest ?
And thanks for your help so far
i set cpu volts to 1.44 fsb up to 210 and cpu multi on 21.5 that got me at 4515mhz about to test with 3dmark

it crashed on physics test (like always)

So you are at 4.5ghz w/1.44vcore? Dont touch pll voltage leave on auto. Have you tried Prime95 with your current oc?
March 3, 2013 4:30:22 PM

no i didnt try prime95 because it didnt even make it through 3dmark11
March 3, 2013 4:34:38 PM

i can get windows to load on most oc's i've tried even at 4.8ghz+ i can load windows i just cant run anything. i always try 3dmark11 first. if it makes it through that. i run prime95 to see how long it will run the torture test. but most oc settings i have tried wont pass the physics test on 3dmark11 it freezes up.

Try Prime95 first, instead of testing your gpu as well it will test your cpu and ram.

Have you stress tested your system at stock bios settings yet? You should make sure it passes stock stress tests before overclocking as well if you havent already.
March 3, 2013 7:54:00 PM

it does pass at stock

i know its something simple that needs a little fine tune. like more NB volts or something

Where is your cpu/nb voltage now? I finally got 4.6 stable last night myself, after my new mobo installed. 7.92 Cinebench, im happy!

I had to set my FSB to 210mhz, Stock NB Voltage and 2300mhz NB, 2300mhz HTLink, 1.45vcore. Stable in Prime and IBT. I also had to downclock my RAM bc it will not run stable at 1866mhz with my FX. I got it stable at 1680mhz so w/e that works. Temps at load in IBT were only 52c max, but Prime went pretty high, 59c at one point but average of 53c in Prime. Chip definitely runs hot imo.

this is my setup and i am running at 5.1 stable i am also water cooled, mother board is crosshair v formula and has had the bios updated, my memory is corsair 1866 and this is set on the motherboard, i have also set the timing as well this is 10 11 10 30. core volts is 1.476 and the temp is at 32c but will rise to 38c.

i have posted a link to show and hope it helps you, i have also set the volts manually, all the other setting are on auto.
