I need suggestions for building a HTPC. I will be playing movies on a 1080p TV as well as some gaming. This being so I need a 1TB drive for files and a much smaller one for software. I want to be able to play Fallout 3, as well as Mass Effect 2 on medium to high settings. I have 1 month old gaming PC but the setup for the HTPC will be so that my wife and company can play games like the aforementioned either with me or on their own. Basically, something better than an Xbox 360's graphics but nothing over the top. I prefer AMD for price/performance ratio. Also, I can spend up to 800 but I prefer under 600. Thank you for your help.
Well ... I was GOING to suggest a micro-ATX build, unTIL you said "HiRezGaming" ...
Because gamers tend to need more power and generate more heat, the smallest form-factors are not optimum, but can be made to suffice ... But trying to get rid of more heat, from a smaller space, creates more fan noise, ... which makes for a fairly lousy HTPC.
How big can it be? What are you seeing in your mind ? Form factor?
Slimline - Lo Profile
mini tower - 1/2 the size of mid-tower (my personal favorite)
mid tower - your best bet at cool yet powerful yet quiet
rack - not
